1985
The company starts by offering both Mac and PC clones to businesses
and home customers. In partnership with Princess Auto computers
were sold and serviced at their location on Panet Road in Winnipeg.
At that time the owners of Powerland were hoping to move into a
mail order business model, which became popular years later by Michael
Dell of Texas.
1986
With 3 employees the company was officially incorporated. Sales
and service were done at the corner of St. Anne's and St. Mary's
road in Winnipeg which would remain a business landmark for years
to come.
1990
Powerland begins selling "Powerland" branded computers
in large quantities to schools, businesses and home users across
the province. At the same time Powerland becomes an authorized service
center for the then popular Epson and Raven dot matrix printers.
1993
Powerland becomes authorized for both Novell and Microsoft networking
solutions. This is the beginning of Powerland's onsite networking
team that is still a technology leader in the province today.
1997
The Powerland sales team starts to win over large clients. With
contracts with many of the provinces school divisions for custom
built computers a large manufacturing facility is setup. In 1997,
with over 100 employees Powerland is clearly the largest computer
company in Manitoba.
2000
Powerland now has two Winnipeg locations, partnerships quickly become
important. A partnership with MTS allows Powerland to sell and install
high speed internet services. By the end of 2000 Powerland is recognized
as the top Sympatico reseller for MTS.
Powerland becomes
a full line authorized for Hewlett Packard products and services.
Powerland purchases
a 80,000 square foot conference facility in Pinawa Manitoba. This
facility originally belonged to Atomic Energy Canada. Wilderness
Edge Retreat and Conference Centre is created.
2001
Powerland wins contract with Red River College to provide
over 500 laptops.
2002
The MTS partnership continues, in 2002 the powerland onsite team
completes it's 60,000th MTS high speed installation.
2003
A contract for Hewlett Packard servers, desktops and laptops becomes
the beginning of a long term mutually fruitfull partnership with
Red River College.
2005
Powerland opens the e-store.uw at the University of Winnipeg.
Powerland is now offering products from Apple and Lenovo (in 2005
Lenovo acquired IBM's laptop and desktop division).
2006
Powerland completes deployment of over 1000 desktops and
notebook computers for MTS Allstream Inc in Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal
and Toronto.
